Did you know your job can impact your San Antonio auto insurance premium? This can either save or cost you money. Where does your job put you?

Have you ever though about how your job can have an effect on your San Antonio auto insurance? Most people don’t and for some people this could mean big savings on their insurance rates. It all depends on your occupation though some are seen as a higher risk then others.

But how do you know if your job is a high risk or not. If you spend your work life on a building site you know accidents can happen but does that make it a high risk job? Risk means different things to different people so that’s why insurance companies base their decisions on data. This data might help or hurt you’re your San Antonio auto insurance rates.

YOU THINK YOUR OCCUPATION HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR AUTO INSURANCE? WELL, THINK AGAIN!

If you didn’t know, your occupation can greatly impact your auto insurance premium. Insurance companies charge lower premiums from scientists, pilots, navigators and artists. These professionals pay the lowest insurance rates available. Lawyers, judges, executives and business owners, on the other hand, pay the highest rates.

But why the difference between occupations? Lawyers, judges, executives and business owners have highly stressful jobs, and spend more time in their cars and talk more frequently on their cell phones than any other driver. Scientists, pilots, navigators and artists, on the other hand, drive less than any other person.

And there’s more: scientists, for example, are regarded as being very meticulous and detailed-oriented people, tending to have good driving habits on the road. For auto insurance companies, this outstanding attention to detail means scientists are safer drivers, resulting in lower car insurance premiums.

The same applies to pilots and navigators, whose jobs require them to be focused on the wellbeing and safety of other people. These skills are often transferred to their driving habits as well. Pilots and navigators are also very safe drivers because their driving records also impact their professional life. If a pilot or navigator got into an accident or received a DUI, their career opportunities would be restricted or even eliminated.

As for the artists, they’re at the lower end of insurance premiums because their jobs require them to work inside the city, where they are more apt to commute via train or bus to work, instead of driving, limiting their time in the car and reducing their chance of getting into an accident.

If you take all of these factors into account, you can easily see why some occupations are coined as “high-risk” and pay more for auto insurance than others.

But getting discounts on auto insurance is not a new concept. For years, insurance companies have been giving discounts to members of “affinity groups”. These discounts are just now being extended to certain occupations.

This is exactly true, occupation has a great impact at your insurance, along with that your location is also a factor of it, suppose you are living in a crowdie place where most of times accidents occurs, so it may affect your insurance rates. Actually insurance company has to check this feature s that they can lower their payouts for paying their clients at time of accidents etc.

They are keenly interested to collect your personal information’s and decide your insurance quote on the basis of those collected information. As mentioned location of job is highly interlinked with the insurance rates, the longer you drive the more you pay, the more you use your car the more you pay, just think about that. And may be you can see that it’s true.

Right now, you must be wondering if your occupation can save you some money on your auto insurance, right. I know I am. So think about that.

Many people think that senior drivers are even worse than young drivers and should pay higher auto insurance San Antonio rates but is that really fair?

People who have been driving for a while have all been cursing at both teen drivers and senior drivers over the years. As these two groups seem to be equally bad drivers to most of us it would seem logically that auto insurance San Antonio insurance rates would be high for both groups but is this fair?

When you were young and had to get auto insurance San Antonio or you’re trying to insure your teenager it hardly seems fair to get these high insurance rates when they haven’t had the change to show how well they can actually drive.

When you see seniors driving slowly or too focused you start to wonder if teens should be the only ones who get this bad rep. But who is actually the worst driver? Insurance companies have the answer:

SENIORS VS TEENS: WHO’S THE WORST DRIVER?

All of us are born helpless babies, march onward through competency, and then run towards an age of diminished capacity.

And whilst some people speak ill of the “white-haired” drivers who seem to be in mere oblivion, truth is we have little to complain about them. Numbers tell us it’s the beauty of youth we have to fear.

Teens, especially the boys, are full of confidence in skills they think they have. They lack in judgment, because they have not yet learned what they need to learn. Teens are the ones we have to look out for.

Less than one percent of people over 65 die as a result of car crashes. On the other hand, this kind of accident is the major cause of death for kids 15 to 20 years old. Males in this group die two times more than the females.

The young and lead-footed are really frightening. Their risk of crash per mile is 4 times higher than that of people in older age groups. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, teenage drivers represent a major hazard. Although young drivers make only 6 percent of the total licensed driving population, about 13 percent of all drivers involved in fatal crashes, in the year 2007, were 15 to 20 years old.

Out there on the road, age and experience do matter. And while older drivers do have problems that can affect their ability to drive as they once did, studies show they’re fully aware of their limitations, and that they restrict their driving as their abilities diminish. As a result, car accidents involving senior drivers are generally not serious. The spike in per mile fatality with older drivers is due to the fact that a 65 years old driver is twice as likely to die from the same accident as a 55 years old driver. And a driver 75 or more years old has four times the risk.

For older drivers, taking a Mature Driver Improvement Course is the first step to ensure they’re aware of all existing practices for defensive driving. Many companies offer insurance discounts to those who graduate in these courses. Also, be sure a responsible adult is monitoring an older driver’s physical abilities.

For younger drivers, some governs are adopting graduated licensing systems, which give increasing privileges to the driver as he matures. Taking a Defensive Driving Course can also ensure teens and young adults will know of the safe driving practices.

If you have kids, take the time to help them become smart, safe drivers. Teach them these important safety tips:

    * Stay under the speed limit;
* Wear seatbelts all the time;
* Limit your distractions;
* Don’t drink and drive;
* Speed thrills but kills.

Giving a lesson to your younger generation will help them in their upcoming life. Follow the speed limits and your children will follow you, if you are not following the rules then no use to teach to your children.

Who is the better driver men or women? This discussion has been going on for years but San Antonio auto insurance companies have the answer!

This discussion has been going on since the day more and more women started to drive. How many times have you heard someone say: “must be a woman driver” when you see someone do something stupid, park in 2 posts instead of 1 or when you see someone speed by most of us assume is a man.

Nobody will ever agree on this question it’s like trying to convince someone your football team is better than theirs. But the only one who has an educated answer based on research and data is an San Antonio auto insurance company and they have an answer to this question most men will not be happy with. This article will explain some on the reasons behind the insurance companies answer:

MAN VS WOMAN: WHO IS THE BETTER DRIVER?

For years, it has been said that men are better drivers than women. Despite the lack of any real proof, there are some men out there that would honestly admit that their wives or girlfriends are better drivers than they are.

So, which of the two is more likely to get a traffic violation ticket? Or to be in a fatal accident? When we put things that way, even the most proud male driver may need to pause for a moment and think.

Auto insurance companies have already made up their minds on the matter, and they have lots of data to back it up. Young males have riskier driving habits than young females. Men between 16 and 25 years of age are much more likely to be involved in an accident, or to be cited for a traffic violation. Insurance companies bear this kind of information in mind when quoting their rates.

Also, men have a 77% higher risk of dying in an accident when compared to women. The total number of deaths between the years of 1999 and 2005 were 175,094 for men and 82,371 women. 14,512 male drivers died in 2007. In the same year only 5,865 female drivers had the same fate. Even though there tend to be more male drivers out there on the road than females, the numbers still speak against men.

Males aged 20 to 24 years were more likely to die in an accident, while females aged 16 to 19 years were slightly more likely to be killed than females 20 to 24 years. Many auto insurance experts agree with the theory that males, especially the young ones, tend to drive more aggressively than women. And these men display their aggression in a direct manner, rather than indirectly. Experts also agree that male drivers break the law more frequently, and take more risks when driving.

Although younger drivers pay more for their car insurance, it’s not always their driving habits that make the difference. Many other things are taken into consideration by insurance companies, and not always in a bad way.

Not every insurance company evaluates the risks in exactly the same way, what makes it even more important for younger drivers of both genders, to compare their rates before buying a policy. There could be a considerable difference in premium between different companies.

The argument, of course, will continue. But as far as car insurance companies are concerned, young men are the worst drivers. And insurance companies rates are different for a man driver and a female driver, looking over the key factors, I guess speed is the reason, why insurance company’s rates are high for man drivers then female drivers. Insurance companies define various factors behind this theory. Although there are certain companies who got same rates for both man drivers and female drivers. But most of them have different rates for them. Whatever it is, insurance companies proves that female are good drivers isn’t it?

If you own a car you must have auto insurance San Antonio but when you buy a used car you do have options and this article will explain more.

If you buy a used car or own an older car you do have more choice in your auto insurance San Antonio coverage.

Car insurance is required by law and each state has a different minimum requirement that you must insure to be legal but then the choice is yours. Find out what the value of your vehicle is and decide then if you should go for full coverage or just a basic coverage.

Getting prices for different coverage’s is easy when you use the online comparison quotes. Setting higher deductibles could save you money too but only use this if you can afford to pay the bill when it comes. This article will give you more information on auto insurance San Antonio for used cars:

AUTO INSURANCE FOR USED CARS.

Auto insurance policies are packages of different kinds of coverage. There is some flexibility regarding the types and the amounts of coverage you choose. However, practically every government in the world has insurance laws that demand drivers to carry at least some insurance. Many states in the U.S., for example, even demand that the owner of the vehicle presents proof of insurance before registering his car. It means you will probably need to insure your used car, regardless of its value.

Almost every country in the world demands that drivers carry liability insurance. It provides financial protection from liability claims against the owner of the car, in case he causes an accident those results in injuries to others and/or damage to other people’s property. Usually, there are mandatory minimum levels of coverage in this area. These laws were created because the responsibility to compensate victims who suffer accident-related losses belongs to the drivers who are at-fault. But most of the times these minimum levels don’t even come close to covering the costs of a grave accident. So, if you really want to be protected from liability claims, your liability coverage certainly should exceed these minimum requirements.

Some other coverage’s are optional in some countries. Medical payments coverage and uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage are good examples of such coverage’s. Medical payments coverage covers medical expenses incurred by you, your familiars, and your non-family passengers. Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, on the other hand, covers losses you and your passengers suffer as a result of an accident caused by a driver who has no insurance or whose insurance is not sufficient to pay for your medical expenses. If buying this coverage’s is optional where you live, base your decision on your particular needs and circumstances.

The collision and comprehensive insurance coverage is optional in almost every place on earth. The collision and comprehensive section of your policy covers physical damage to your car resulting from collisions and some other causes (like fire, falling objects, vandalism, etc.). It also covers losses associated with theft. However, your car’s value plays the biggest part in determining your need for this type of coverage. It may not be cost-effective if your vehicle is extremely cheap, because you may end up paying more in insurance than you would pay to replace your vehicle.

Due to the same factor insurance companies have Cleary written in their terms and conditions that they will only insure cars which could pass through certain tests, several tests are involved, and these test of your car could examine them that they can insure it or not. Most of insurance companies do these examining tests, but there are very few working in UK and Europe, where one can insure his old car without any problem, but there are still certain rules to follow up, but the rules to follow are much simple then the cars examine test. Since old cars could create a terrible lose to insurance companies so standard insurance is not available for such cars.

Will hybrid cars be the solution for cheap San Antonio auto insurance rates? This article will explain more!

The type of car you drive tells a lot about the person driving it. When you see a small car you automatically think female driver. And when you see a convertible sports car, do you think midlife crisis? But people who drive hybrid cars are different and San Antonio auto insurance companies know this too.

Hybrid cars have been around for years but only recently more and more people are buying this type of car as a result more data is available too. This article will give more information about hybrid cars and San Antonio auto insurance rates.

HYBRID CARS! YOU GOTTA LOVE THESE BABIES!

A hybrid is a car that uses a combination of gas and electric power. These cars are loved by their owners because they’re really cost-effective and have lower insurance rates.

However, there are a few minor issues with hybrids. They are not very powerful, so they may look slow when they are in freeway traffic, for example. But most of their owners don’t mind giving up a little bit on speed, because they’re saving a lot at the gas pump. Gas prices have been going up for some time now, and there’s no end in sight. So, these people are really coming out ahead by driving a hybrid. You don’t see that many hybrids around yet, but there will probably be a lot more of them out there very soon.

In terms of car insurance, a policy for a new hybrid usually costs the same as that of a 1998 car of the same model. Obviously, insurance companies only insure a few hybrids nowadays, but so far there are relatively few of these cars out there on the road, but their numbers will probably increase with time. In a few years, when these cars gain in popularity and companies get more insurance claims experience about them, things may change a little. But right now their insurance rate is very low.

For now, only the Honda Civic and the Toyota Prius hybrids have enough data for IIHS to rank them, and both were released in 2004. And up to this moment, they’re doing a little better than other vehicles of similar size and type. Some people are willing to pay extra for the hybrid, so they’re probably being bought by a different breed of driver.

In other words, you’ve got a very select group buying hybrids. These new drivers may be driving in different ways, in different settings, at different times and in different areas. These people are into fuel economy, and are probably more safety conscious than the owners of more conventional cars. They’re not the type of people who are going to be burning rubber down the streets or driving aggressively on freeways. Therefore, they would presumably get lower insurance risks than those who drive more aggressively.

High technology vehicles as the hybrids may change the landscape of the insurance market. Frequency of claims will tend to diminish, as high technology vehicles like the hybrids continue to improve over time. There may also be an increase in severity of damage claims. When a hybrid car gets into an accident (or any other car with high technology), there’s a greater chance of a total loss. The repair of hybrids is something that insurance organizations are still looking at.

It is still too early to tell what effect hybrid vehicles will have on insurance premiums, but if in the future the loss history shows fewer claims, then premiums will continue to be lower for these cars. So we will be waiting to see what happens in the upcoming days.

Is the type of your car an important factor in determining the cost of your San Antonio auto insurance policy?

Are your San Antonio auto insurance rates really affected by the car you decide to buy? Each insurance company is different and uses different data to calculate insurance rates so if you have your heart set on a specific car and it is expensive to insure with one company you should get some quotes to compare rates at other companies.

There are a few issues most insurance companies look at and it will not only keep you and your family safe but will help you keep the cost down. If you have no idea which car you want you could call your insurance company and ask what kind of car they recommend that is affordable for you to insure. This article will explain some of the more general issues that influence most San Antonio auto insurance companies:

HOW DOES THE TYPE OF CAR YOU HAVE AFFECTS YOUR RATES?

The type of your car is an important factor in determining the cost of your auto insurance policy, and how that model performs in terms of theft and crash costs will alter the premium over time. So, the vehicle you drive surely is a part of the equation on auto insurance cost.

When a car model is released, it is associated with a symbol by insurance rating organizations that predict its expected costs in insurance payment compared to other vehicle models. As experience accumulates for that model, the car may be moved up or down in these ratings and this would affect the amount you pay for your coverage. In addition to your type of car, auto insurance companies also take in consideration your driving record, gender, credit history, age, claims history, amount and type of auto insurance purchased, where you live, just to name a few key variables.

Sports cars and sport utility vehicles are among the type of vehicles that probably will cost you more in terms of premiums. Some insurance company’s rate sport utility vehicles differently based on this type’s progress history of causing more damage to other vehicles, when involved in car crashes.

Crash experience and loss experience for the type of your vehicle will help insurance companies determine your insurance premium. When you are buying a car, it is always good to check crash test ratings. Also, you should choose a vehicle that has low insurance losses in real crashes, because it can help you lower your insurance premium.

In terms of passenger safety, it is recommended that you buy medium sized or larger cars, with good crash test ratings. If you get into a crash, the most important thing is survival. Size and weight of a vehicle are important survival factors, and you get that with a larger car. Sport utility vehicles have the advantage of size and weight in crashes with other vehicles, but they are more susceptible to single vehicle rollover accidents. Safety features such as side air bags can help save your life or that of a loved one, if your car gets violently hit at its side.

And having electronic stability control can help prevent a crash from happening in the first place. The electronic stability control is a computerized technology that improves the safety of a vehicle’s stability by detecting and minimizing skids. When it detects loss of steering control, it automatically applies the brakes to help “steer” the vehicle where the driver intends to go. Braking is automatically applied to individual wheels, such as the outer front wheel to counter overseer, or the inner rear wheel to counter under steer. Some electronic stability control systems also reduce engine power until control is regained. Electronic stability control does not improve a vehicle’s cornering performance; rather it helps to minimize a loss of control. The NHTSA estimates 5,300 to 9,600 traffic fatalities could be avoided if all passenger vehicles were equipped with the feature. According to the IIHS one-third of fatal accidents could be prevented by the technology.

Being distracted when you drive a car can lead to higher auto insurance San Antonio rates. We talk on the phone, eat or drink coffee but should we?

Let’s be honest here, how many things do you do when you should only be paying attention to driving your car. We all sing along with the radio, drink some coffee or chat to our friends either in the car on the phone (hands free of course).

Because driving a car is such a basic skill that everyone can do we don’t think as much as we should about the fact that when we drive a car we have a weapon in our hands that can easily hurt us and others within seconds.

And because people don’t like to admit they were drinking coffee or using the phone when they get into an accident there is no real data but if nobody was distracted there wouldn’t be so many accidents.

But being distracted when you drive affects your auto insurance San Antonio too. This article will explain more:

DRIVING DISTRACTIONS AND YOUR INSURANCE RATES

If you can cut back on everyday driving distractions, it will certainly help you save money on car insurance. The average auto insurance rate increases 22 percent after the first accident and 13 percent after the first driving ticket. You can avoid these expensive mistakes by eliminating some usual driver distractions.

Anything that takes your eyes off the road and/or your hands off the wheel can lead to a car crash and to higher car insurance rates. Eight out of ten drivers who own a cell phone admit they talk while driving, and 18 percent admit they text while doing it, according to a 2008 Nationwide Mutual study. In fact, 45 percent of drivers in that survey reported they were involved in an accident of some kind with a driver who was using a cell phone.

While only 3 percent of the respondents said they used to eat while driving, that is the most dangerous distraction for a driver. Drive-thrum is very tempting when you’re in a hurry, but you should avoid these three dangerous food groups while driving:

•	Hot: hot chocolate, hot coffee or a soup-to-go can spill or burn your mouth in a split second. Have you ever heard of a travel lid that doesn’t leak?

•	Greasy: tacos, hamburgers and chili dogs were designed to be eaten on the run, but greasy foods can make your steering wheel a mess, and that is pretty dangerous. Even more dangerous is the person who’s grabbing a wing from a bucket of chicken.

•	Gooey: jelly donuts or breakfast burritos can ooze down your shirt, on the way to work. What’s more distracting that worrying of how you’ll get that stain out before that important morning meeting?

Lots of insurance claims are filled with poor excuses for car accidents, like “eating chocolate cake” or “spilling hot chowder while driving”, as well as with tamer excuses like “the lid slipped” or “the dog jumped on my lap”. Sadly, in just a second, you can miss a green light turning red or a pedestrian stepping our from between parked cars. And bang! You had an accident! Will eating and driving be regarded as an infraction on an auto insurance accident report?

No. There’s no field on an insurance claim report where you can write what you were eating while driving, so you won’t get a ticket for it. Unless, of course, you’re at-fault for the accident. If you are, it’s probably time to compare rates, because yours are going to increase. But you can still get a ticket for testing or talking

There are some American states that ban the use of hand-held cell phones by any driver. Those who oppose this ban complain that the accident data is not compelling, partly because it’s self-reported. Many drivers are unwilling to admit they were distracted when they got involved in an accident, because their car insurance rate will certainly increase as a result. Others believe that a cell phone is critical for directions, for safety, and even for work productivity, as drivers with long commutes usually use hands-free equipment to make the most of their driving time. It’s tough to find the middle ground, as even people who’ve lost someone in an accident caused by driver distraction have found it tough to put the cell phone in the glove compartment. Cell phones can really be addicting.

If you’re riding some really hot wheels thieves might want to steal your vehicle for that reason and this impacts your San Antonio auto insurance.

What is your dream car? Most likely this is a very cool car to drive and be seen in, but if you like this car the chances are that so do a lot of other people including thieves. We don’t think about this but if your car is likely to be stolen it will cost you more in San Antonio auto insurance.

Insurance companies calculate risks by past data and if your dream car has been stolen many times the last years your rates will most likely be high. If you really love the car there are some ways to help you in keeping the San Antonio auto insurance costs down.

DO THIEVES THINK YOUR VEHICLE IS HOT?

So, you’re riding some really hot wheels (no pun intended), right? That’s really cool and all, but thieves might want to steal your vehicle precisely for that reason.

Curiously, some older models top the list of most stolen vehicles, ahead of newer, flashier vehicles. That’s because older cars have parts that become harder come by over the time, making the pieces more profitable for thieves. This is why the same make and style of vehicles keep on being stolen year after year. Vehicle thieves also follow market trends. They target the most popular vehicles because they provide valuable parts that can easily be sold in their domestic market or even exported to other countries.

Vehicle theft statistics have an Impact on your auto insurance premium. You might be wondering what would be the effect on your car insurance rate. Many insurance companies set their rates according to the industry’s loss history. As a result, vehicles with a high-theft risk are charged with a higher insurance rate. However, many insurance companies offer discounts for automatic anti-theft devices. These little trinkets can help keep your auto insurance rate down.

To help guard your wheels from being stolen, there are some low-cost suggestions you could follow to make your car less attractive to thieves.

First of all, never leave your car unlocked, with the key in the ignition. It is an open invitation to thieves, regardless of which anti-theft device you use. Always lock your car, even if you only intend to be parked for a brief period of time.

Second, install a warning device. Having a visible and/or audible device that alerts thieves (and everyone around) that your vehicle is protected is another good way to ensure that your car remains where you left it.

Third, install an immobilizing device. These devices prevent thieves from bypassing your ignition and hot-wiring the vehicle. Some of these zany gadgets have computer chips in the ignition keys. Others will cut the flow of electricity and/or fuel to the engine until a secret button or switch is activated.

Fourth, install a tracking device. It is simply the most effective safeguard against car thieves. A tracking system emits a signal to your local police station or monitoring station, right after the vehicle has been reported stolen. Tracking devices are very effective in helping authorities recover stolen vehicles.

And finally, take immediate action. If by any chance your vehicle does get stolen, contact your local police department immediately. And Make sure you have the following information at hand:

    * Year, make, model, and color of your car;
* License plate number;
* Approximate time of the theft;
* Location where the car was parked;
* Names of witnesses, if there are any.

And do not forget to contact your auto insurance company. Make sure to have your policy number and details of the incident ready to give to your auto insurance agent. Typically it takes up to 30 days to settle a stolen vehicle claim.

Information might actually save you some money as far as auto insurance is concerned, it could be any of these 8 little things:

In these current times we should all check if we are overpaying for services and your auto insurance San Antonio is one of the first things you should check as this could potentially save you money on a yearly basis and it’s easy and fast to do. If it turns out you already have the best coverage for the lowest price it’s one less thing to worry about and you could find potential savings elsewhere. This article will give you some great tips on how to save on your San Antonio auto insurance policy!

WANNA SAVE ON YOUR POLICY? FOLLOW THESE TIPS!

If you think you’re paying too much on your policy, it’s probably because there’s something your car insurance agent isn’t telling you. And that information might actually save you some money. As far as auto insurance is concerned, it could be any of these 8 little things:

1. Got an older car? Drop the collision coverage.
If you have a car that’s 7 or 8 years old, and if it is worth less than $2,500, it’s about time you start thinking about taking the risk and dropping collision premiums from your policy. Why? Chances are your deductible is almost on the same value of your car, and any major collision will send you to a car dealer.

2. Buy your home and auto insurance with different companies.
With everything being bundled today, you’d think having your home and auto insurances bundled at the same company would save you some money. But if you do your research, you may discover that having separate policies can be worth it. Good rates abound for both types of insurance, but it’s quite rare to find the lowest rate for both from the same insurance company. So, unless you buy an umbrella policy, there’s no strong reason to keep your policies together. Especially if you can save.

3. Minimum liability coverage? That’s not enough for me.
You may tell your agent that you can only afford the minimum car insurance required by law. And your agent may be more than happy to provide you with what you asked for. What he may neglect to tell you is that in some places these limits are ridiculously low. And those minimums won’t be covering the costs of a serious accident. Which means you could be paying a lot more than you bargained for, if you’re at fault.

4. Look around for lower rates.
Do you really think your insurance agent will tell you to shop around for the best deal? Think again! Even independent agents only represent a few companies, so how can you know if they’re being fair to you? Comparing services online from different companies will allow you to fine-tune the deductibles and coverage you want, and then compare the rates side-by-side.

5. Go green; keep green
Nowadays, even the auto insurance companies went green. They offer discounts that will trim a bit off your premium, if they know you’ve gone green too. Look for discounts for driving a hybrid, for opting for paperless statements or electronic payment plans. Even signing your policy with an e-signature can save you a few bucks. Basically, the less the company spends on paper, the more they’ll pass those savings on to you.

6. Consider paying that claim yourself
Naturally, you don’t really want to hear that. But if you’ve crashed into the garage, think twice before asking your company to repair it. There’s also the possibility that your rates will go up at the time of renewal. Also, the next time you try to shop for a new insurance, some insurance companies will use an insurance history report to see if you’ve made any claims, and how much money was paid. Although accidents can only affect your rates for the following three years, many companies will look back five or more years, before if they want to offer you insurance. Having more claims will definitely affect that result.

7. Your car makes all the difference. Don’t buy that convertible!
Not all vehicles are created equal. Small or large, old or new, the car you drive will affect the premium you pay. Insurance companies use complicated algorithms to determine how expensive it might be to pay you a claim. That’ll affect how much your premium will cost.

8. Your kid turned 16? Don’t add to your policy – yet.
If your teenager has turned 16, but isn’t a licensed driver, you’re not required to add them to your insurance policy. You’re only required to add 16 year older after they become licensed to drive. That also means you don’t have to insure them if they just have a learning permit. But pay close attention to your policy, because some insurance companies may require it.

adding a teen to your insurance policy is like putting an elephant into a porcelain store: it'll probably cause an accident, and the bill will be expensive.

We all know San Antonio auto insurance gets expensive when you need to insure a teenager but thankfully we don’t have to settle for the high rates anymore. With some effort on your and your teens part you can eventually get the rates down and keep them down for years to come. This article explains some options on how you can impact your auto insurance San Antonio insurance rates. Some tips can save you money instantly and some will take a bit longer but you can get your rates down if you use them!

HOW TO GET A GOOD AUTO INSURANCE FOR A TEENAGE DRIVER

If you have a teenager who drives or one who will soon be driving, then you probably know that adding a teen to your insurance policy is sort of like putting an elephant into a porcelain store: it’ll probably cause an accident, and the bill will be expensive.

Now you have a teenager eager to get behind the wheel, and it will probably cost more than you can afford. But there are still a few things you can do to bring your rate down.

If your kid has good grades, try a “good student” discount. It could take 10 to 15% off the price of your car insurance policy. Some parents pay their children to keep a B average or better. With this discount, your kid will be paying you back.

Give your kid a used car. Even though those zany safety features can get you a good discount, it costs more to insure a new car. Find a safe, good used car and save both on car payments and insurance.

Don’t leave all the in-car training to the driving school. There are some things you learned that may actually save your kid’s life out there on the road. The more time you spend in the car teaching your kid how to drive, the better.

Always set a curfew. Part of raising a child is teaching them responsibility, so you should impose limits. Even if your city doesn’t have a curfew for teen drivers, you should establish one. Teenage driving deaths rise dramatically from 9 PM to 6 AM. And if you remember your own youth, you’ll also remember that there’s no good reason for teens to be out after 9 or 10 PM.

Don’t let your kid pack the car with friends and other distractions. The most common cause of accidents with teen drivers is distraction. It could be from a car full of friends or from a cell phone that’s blowing up. Things get even worse with loud music, testing and taking pictures.

Be strict. Don’t let your kid speed or drink. And always tell your kid to wear the seatbelt. If your child gets a ticket, restrict access to the car. If something serious happens, take away your kid’s driving privileges.

Don’t lower your deductible. A low deductible means your insurance company will pay you more if there’s an accident, but if you raise it, you will knock a lot off your premium. Dropping collision coverage on your teen’s car will also save you some money. Just remember that in both cases you’ll have to pay more for repairs, so calculate your savings before going ahead with it.

Don’t put your kid inside a small, old deathtrap of a car. If you don’t put your kid in a safe car, you won’t qualify for safety discounts.

And always look around for better options. If you have to move to another insurance company to save, don’t hesitate, Do it.
